The Stollery Children's Hospital is world-renowned for complex and specialized services such as pediatric heart surgery, organ transplantation, intensive care and neurology. The mission of the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation is to raise money and advocate for the enhancement of health services for children by funding initiatives that promote health, prevent disease and treat illness.
The Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation is dedicated not only to the children of Northern and Central Alberta, but also to children from all over the province and across Canada. While government funding provides for basic child health services, there is increasingly inadequate funding for specialized services.
The Stollery Children's Hospital has advanced from the tertiary care level to the higher, quaternary care level that includes complex lifesaving care, therefore, attracting leading pediatric specialists from around the world. Ongoing support from the community is crucial in order to maintain and enhance this level of complex care for children.
Funds raised by the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation support the
following high priority needs at the hospital:
- State-of-the-art pediatric equipment that provide specialists with the tools they need to deliver the best care possible
- Research to ensure cures and treatments for childhood diseases are continuously discovered
- Recruitment and retention of nationally and internationally renowned doctors and scientists
Although the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation has been in existence since 1978, the Foundation's identity and purpose remain unclear. Through the giving/education campaign, the profile of the Foundation will increase as the messaging serves to educate and inform the general public on the need for ongoing support. The Foundation relies solely on donations to help make miracles happen for children. The semi annual giving/education campaign will deliver a strong call to action to stimulate broader community involvement.
