A Premium Compact SUV

The Acura RDX has always offered an entry point to the world of premium compact SUVs. For 2019 the RDX is all-new and delivers style, performance and technology to match its rivals from German manufacturers at a much lower price point. In fact, with a base price of just $43,990 the RDX undercuts similar models from BMW and Mercedes by $9,000 or more while offering even more value.

First impressions count, and the 2019 RDX dazzles from at first sight. It borrows design language from Acura's Precision Concept show car, which uses deeply sculpted surfaces and alluring proportions to convey performance. The RDX translates this design language into SUV form, which results in a wider, longer, more athletic-looking vehicle than the previous generation RDX. Character lines sweep upward from front to rear. Its surfaces almost shimmer as they catch light from multiple angles. With all-LED lighting including Acura's "Jewel Eye" headlights, the overall effect is dynamic and eye-catching. And for the first time, the RDX's platform is unique to Acura and not shared with its Honda cousins. This SUV is truly unique.

This restyle continues into the interior, which borrows elements from Acura's Precision Interior Concept from the auto show circuit. This includes premium materials, soft-touch surfaces, and active noise cancellation. At the center of this redesigned cockpit is the brand new True Touchpad Interface (TTI), a control panel designed for ergonomic simplicity. The TTI rests on the lower part of the centre console where it falls naturally to hand. Where you touch it corresponds to the 10.2-inch display at the top of the centre console. This allows you to maintain a natural driving position while working the controls for ventilation, entertainment, and more. It's an ergonomic breakthrough.

A premium compact SUV should have premium performance, and the 2019 RDX delivers in spades. Power comes from a 272 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This direct-injected powerplant features Acura's VTEC variable valve timing and pumps out 280 lb-ft of torque Acura's Super-Handling All Wheel Drive (SH-AWD).  There's no turbo lag. 100 kph comes up in as little as 5.7 seconds. Sport and Sport Plus driving modes offer extra levels of handling prowess.

In addition to the TTI interface mentioned earlier, the 2019 RDX includes 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity in all trim levels. Apple CarPlay is standard, and Android Auto will be enabled soon. Insulation and an acoustic windshield make the cabin whisper-quiet in everyday driving. The Platinum Elite trim level offers a heads-up display. Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and the Collision Mitigation Braking System are all standard on every trim level, along with adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and Lane Keeping Assist.
