What Qualifies an Acura Sport Hybrid?

Acura Sport Hybrid technology is made of four individual parts working in unison to deliver greater performance without sacrificing fuel efficiency:

Gasoline Engines

The first part of the Sport Hybrid technology offered by Acura is the V6 gasoline engine. The capacity of the engine varies between vehicles, for example, the Acura NSX houses a 3.5-litre V6, whereas the Acura MDX utilizes a 3.0-litre V6 engine. The technology is similar, however the displacement of the engine (defined as the total volume of all cylinders in the engine), is greater in an NSX than an MDX.

Direct Drive Electric Motors

The second part of the Sport Hybrid technology is a single electric motor. The electric motor is located between the gasoline engine and the dual-clutch transmission, attached to the driveshaft and delivers on increased torque and acceleration.

Acura Sport Hybrid Battery

The third part of the Hybrid Sport technology is Acura's Sport Hybrid Battery, also knowns as the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) is located behind the seats to direct energy to the single electric motor as well as twin electric motors on the opposing side of the vehicle.

Acura's Hybrid Twin Motor Unit

The final and fourth part of the technology is the Acura Hybrid Twin Motor Unit. Located between the wheels, these electric motors provide immediate torque with the natural reaction of delivering on immediate acceleration.

Advantages of the Acura Sport Hybrid

There are two clear advantages to Acura's Sport Hybrid technology:

Increased Performance

Acura's Sport Hybrid vehicles are designed with three electric motors positioned to provide the vehicle with immediate torque and acceleration. The result is a considerable increase in the performance of the vehicle versus a traditional gasoline engine

Increased Fuel Efficiency

It's not often that an automaker can declare their hybrid technology offers increased fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance, but with Acura, you'll experience the best of both worlds. The Acura MDX and RLX offer increased performance while delivering on fuel efficiency when compared to a traditional gasoline model.
