2023 Acura TLX vs 2023 Audi A4

2023 Acura TLX vs 2023 Audi A4

The 2023 Acura TLX and the 2023 Audi A4 take distinct approaches in attempting to conquer the premium compact vehicle market. While the Audi features traditional styling and a luxurious cabin, the Acura makes a bolder statement in terms of looks and character. The competition gets even tighter when factoring in technology and interior features. After exploring both models extensively, we believe you'll opt for the 2023 Acura TLX, and here's why.

Interior

The race for the better interior comes close, with both offering almost similar features. Regardless, the Acura edges out the Audi when considering comfort since it has more cabin space as well as heated and ventilated front seats. The Audi also features heated front seats, but you'll only get ventilation on higher trims. You'll also find a slightly larger screen on the Acura at 10.2 inches, while the Audi's is just 10.1 inches.

Technology

Starting with sound, Audi's 10-speaker sound system is powerful but pales in comparison to Acura's ELS STUDIO 3D Premium Audio System with 17 speakers. Most tech features like Bluetooth connectivity and smartphone compatibility are standard on both vehicles, except for the Wi-Fi hotspot, which is optional on the Acura. Both cars have similar safety tech features; however, the TLX has the upper hand by providing more standard safety features than its rival. A good example is the traffic sign recognition feature that's standard on the Acura but only available on higher trims in the Audi.

Exterior

If both cars were parked side by side, the first thing you'd notice is that the Acura is bigger and seems to have a bolder and more commanding look than the Audi A4. Acura's optional 20-inch wheels are larger than Audi's 18-inch wheels, further contributing to the TLX's striking look. With an optional A-Spec package, your TLX will look even more aggressive with features like blacked-out trim, darker headlamps, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The Audi A4 does not come in an aggressive sport trim level.

Performance

If power is what you're looking for, then you're better off with the Acura. You can select between the 2.0-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that's on the A-SPEC and Platinum Elite or the 3.0-litre, direct injection, turbocharged V6 engine on the Type S. The most powerful powertrain, exclusive to the Type S, is capable of chugging out 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, while the other trims come in decent at 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Comparably, Audi only has a 2.0-litre inter-cooled turbocharged gas/electric four-cylinder engine producing 261 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, Acura's engine is coupled to a 10-speed automatic transmission, while Audi's is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, giving the TLX the upper hand.
